Gas works to disrupt bus services

Southern Gas Networks (SGN) will begin replacing current gas mains with modern plastic piping from July 28. The renewing of the mains will be completed in two, week-long phases.

Phase one will see The Square closed at the junctions of Horsham Road to Stable Lane before the entrance to the Village House. In the second phase Horsham Road will be closed from the entrance of the Village House up to Lime Road.

Alan Thompson and Patrick Hyndman from Southern Gas Networks spoke at a Findon Parish Council meeting on Monday evening.

Mr Hyndman, SGN team manager, said: “The main concern for our works are school children, buses coming into the village and access into the Square.

“It’s been agreed with Councillor Del Henty and West Sussex the best time will be the school holiday in the summer where we’ve got a six week period. Unfortunately, it’s going to mean there’s a road closure for what we’re anticipating as two weeks.”

Three temporary bus stops will be put in place while maintenance work is carried out.

Two will be either side of the A24 towards the south of the village and the third will be on the west side of the A24 north of the Long Furlong roundabout.

Cllr Henty said he could see the locations of the temporary stops being a problem for elderly residents, particularly those who live on the other side of the village.

In addition to the disruption to traffic, there will be interruptions to gas supplies, however supplies will be disconnected and reinstated within the same day.
