Pupils hailing from Horsham, Worthing, Hove and beyond were celebrating their top GCSE grades at Lancing College this morning (Thursday, August 20).
The independent school saw 27 per cent of pupils’ GCSEs awarded at A* grade, with 55 per cent graded A* to A, over 80 per cent awarded at A* to B grade, and 20 per cent achieving a clean sweep of A* and A grades.
Sophie Hanna from Horsham achieved 8A*s and 2As, Sean Van Eynort from Worthing took 10A*s and 1A, and academic scholar Charlie Foster from Lancing gained 9A*s and 1A – he will be studying Latin, English, History and Geography for A Level.
Head Master, Dominic Oliver, said he is delighted with this year’s results.
He said: “Bravo to all those who took GCSEs at Lancing College this year and to the teachers who so capably guided them.
“When I joined Lancing in September 2014 I was hugely impressed with the range and quality of GCSEs gained by our pupils.
“It gives me great pleasure to see that in 2015 our young people have surpassed themselves – last year’s cohort were an extremely accomplished bunch but this group have done better still, with buckets of top grades across the board.
“This achievement is all the greater coming as it does at a point of increasing downward pressure and volatility at GCSE level.
“Some serious celebrating will be in order before they get stuck in to their Sixth Form studies and the next set of exciting opportunities here at Lancing.”
