For the twelfth consecutive year the school has improved on its previous year’s results, much to the delight of head teacher Sue Marooney.

She said: “We are absolutely delighted. This is what makes it so rewarding when you see people reaping the rewards of their hard work. Our sense of team here is really important. We all have different starting points. Students of all abilities have come in with record results, and it’s always about celebrating the individual as well as the whole school. It couldn’t be a better way to start the year.”

She added that the success was down to high expectations, hard work, rigour and a relentless determination to never give up.

Head boy Ben Gardner, 16, of Heene Road, Worthing, achieved an impressive 9 A*s and three As and has been offered a music scholarship at Charterhouse in Godalming.

He said: “I’m absolutely ecstatic. It hit me last night that the results were coming up. It’s all been down to a lot of hard work and support from the teachers. I was predicted something similar, but it’s great to know I’ve lived up to what I believed I could do and what the teachers believed I could do.”

Other high achievers included Emma Ball, 16, from High Salvington, who scored one A*, seven As and two Bs, and Sophie Klus, 16, of Goring Road, Goring, who got three A*s, two As and three Bs.
