GCSEs: Worthing High School achieves its best ever results

Students celebrate their GCSE results at Worthing High School

The school, in South Farm Road, Worthing, saw 60 per cent of students achieve five or more A*-C grades in maths and English.

Head girl Emily Coles, 16, from Findon Valley, and Jevhan Pandya, 16, of St Valerie Road, Worthing, were joint top scorers with eight A*s and four As each.

Jevhan is going to study chemistry, physics and double maths at BHASVIC, while Emily is going on to Worthing College to study maths, further maths, chemistry and a Cambridge Pre-U – ‘a new post-16 qualification that prepares learners with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed at university’.

Jevhan said: “I’m over-the-moon. My aim was going for seven A*s, so to get eight and the As is pretty much the dream situation.”

Talking of his time at the school, he added: “It’s been very interesting and brilliant. They are very supportive and embrace everyone. I’m looking forward to the change but I have had some nice times here.”

Head boy Jack Window, 16, of Balcombe Road, Worthing, was the next highest achiever with seven A*s and five As. He said: “I’m really happy with them. It’s (time at the school) been the most formative time of my life. I have changed so much from when I first came. I can’t imagine having spent it anywhere else.”

Head teacher Carolyn Dickinson was speaking with students as they opened their results in the school grounds.

She said: “We are celebrating our best ever results right across the abilities range, which is why we are so pleased. It’s really fulfilling to see the students so pleased but also to commend the staff, whose preparation has made the difference.”
