Get involved with Worthing's Independent Living Association

DISABLED people from Worthing are being encouraged to become trustees of the town's Independent Living Association (ILA).

The trustee role would allow people to help shape the association's future policies and activities.

The Worthing-based charity helps hundreds of disabled people in Sussex.

It runs an advocacy service, campaigns on disability issues and takes a leading role in disability service development.

Trustee Ray Chandler said: "There are huge changes going on in social services, affecting how care and support are planned and provided.

"People with all kinds of disability and their carers now have legal rights to choose what help they receive, and to run it themselves if they want to.

"This is a very exciting period, and being a trustee of the ILA provides a great opportunity for disabled people and their allies to have real influence on how the disability agenda moves forward."

Applicants with experience in social care, business administration, finance, personnel or marketing would be especially welcome.

Anyone interested in becoming an ILA trustee should telephone the organisation on 01903 219482 or visit the website www.ilawestsussex.org.
