Gift-seekers give 1066 Specials a pre-birthday boost

SO many craft workers took space at 1066 Specials Football Club's craft fair this morning that St Martha's Church Hall was packed both with stalls and with gift-hunters.

This was good news for the club which, since 2003, has provided the means for children and adults with disabilities or special needs the opportunity to play football and receive coaching.

Already, the club is looking ahead to next March when it plans to celebrate its sixth birthday with a 1066 Specials Week designed to raise the public profile of the club and its work.

It was also good news for those gift-seekers for the wide choice of craft work on display included many opportunities to make Christmas a happy occasion.

Topically with the approach of Halloween, there were hand-made witch dolls to purchase.

Pot Magic was offering hand-painted pots. There was knitwear and wax pictures, decoupage and books, wooden bowls crafted on the lathe and gift-set flannels embroidered "Nan" and "Granddad."

For those with gifts to find for relatives and friends celebrating a new arrival there were baby-packs incorporating both toys and toiletries.

Specials' officers and supporters were manning stalls like the tombola and cakes.

The 1066 Specials achieved Charitable status in April 2007. They were accorded Sussex Sports Partnership Appproved Club status in 2006 and Football Association Charter Club status in 2007.

Coaching sessions are held at Bexhill College, Penland Road, on the first and last Saturdays of the month (except August). Further information about the club is available on www.1066specials.org.uk or from club coaching coordinator Jonathan Haddock on 01424 221961.
