Project Shoebox is collecting items to help women who are victims of domestic abuse and forced to flee their homes with only the clothes they are wearing.

Sarah King, Anne Henley, Vicky Johnson and Lee Spicer-Howard are organising the community project following a successful launch last year.

Vicky explained: “This is an attempt to help the women who will arrive at women’s refuges this Christmas.

“Many will arrive bruised, battered and with nothing more than the clothes they are standing in, usually in an area far away from what was their home.

“Together, we will collect unwanted toiletries and make them into a gift to get these women started and remind them that people can and do care. Let’s make a difference this Christmas.”

Last year, the group was able to assemble 114 shoeboxes for the women’s refuge in Worthing.
