‘Gobsmacking’ cheque joy for good causes

GOOD causes have this week been reaping the rewards after charitable children in Angmering handed over almost £4,000 to charity.

Last week, students from years seven to nine at The Angmering School took part in a five-mile fun run which raised £3,871.34 for the Pray for Issey campaign and the Sussex Snowdrop Trust.

And on Monday (March 23), a grateful Samantha Riley, founder of Pray for Issey, and her daughter, Issey, paid a visit to the school to collect the cash from year-seven students.

Samantha, of Felpham, said: “It was an amazing school and the children were so friendly and polite. We still can’t believe how much they raised.”

Ed Whiffin, head of PE at the school helped organise the run. He said: “I am so proud of the fundraising efforts of the students at the Angmering School and we really enjoyed meeting Issey and handing over to her the cheque for the money raised.

“It was lovely to see her smiling as the awards were handed out at the year-seven assembly to the fastest runners and the students who had raised the most money.”

Pray for Issey was set up after Issey was diagnosed with a brain tumour. It supports the children’s neurosciences unit at Southampton General Hospital – which treated Issey.

Samantha added that when she handed over the half of the cheque to the Sussex Snowdrop Trust, on Tuesday, that staff there were ‘gobsmacked’ by the amount the children had raised.
