John Clark, captain of the Hill Barn Older Gentleman’s Golf Section (HOGGS), decided to donate the money to the Stroke Association and local stroke group The Kestro Club.

Chantelle Ojo, community and events fundraising manager for the Stroke Association, said: “We’re so grateful to John for adopting us as his charity and to
Hill Barn’s HOGGS for all they have done to raise this money.

“Their funds will help us to support people locally to make the best recovery they can, fund research to develop new treatments and ways of preventing stroke.”

The charities were chosen to raise awareness of the illness, after one of the club’s members and a close relative of another suffered severe strokes.

The sum was raised via a series of events throughout the year, including a shuffleboard evening, Captain’s Charity Day, raffles, and a continuous theme throughout the year of ‘penalties’ issued to members by the captain.
