Goring Scout group given support
Young members of 2nd Goring Scout Group are looking forward to an exciting programme, with the help of recent donations.
The Beavers, aged six to eight, meet weekly on a Monday and have been raising money to fund a range of activities.
Waitrose Community Matters supported their efforts by including the colony in its green tokens programme, in which customers decide how the £1,000 allocated each month is distributed between the chosen charities.
Andy Masson, manager at Waitrose Worthing, said: “The 2nd Goring Beavers were trying to raise funds so they can carry out many activities throughout the year, which include a family camping trip in which the Beavers get to stay away for the evening with their families and fellow Beavers.
“They are also trying to raise funds to support beach trips and outdoor pursuits to help the Beavers develop their understanding of the great outdoors while learning and having fun.
“Waitrose was pleased to present the Beavers with a cheque for £252.”
Daren Bakers from Waitrose Worthing visited the colony to present Beaver Scout leader Gill Marriott with the cheque.
Meanwhile, Worthing Freemasons agreed to support the Scout group by making a small donation.
A cheque was presented by Ron Pavier to Cub Scout leader Jeanne Greenyer at Marine Gardens on Worthing seafront, during a trip to the putting green.
She said the members of the pack were keen to get on with their game!
