Government department gives the thumbs up to apprentices

The Valuation Office Agency, in Strand Parade, Worthing, is looking for seven new apprentices, which will take the organisation’s tally to 21 across its London and Worthing offices.

Successful candidates will work towards a ICT professional qualification, and be based in Worthing.

Kevin Ransom, IT skills development team leader at the VOA said apprentices were a “proven solution” to recruitment challenges faced.

He said: “Our positive experience to date makes it clear that apprenticeships provide a proven solution to our recruitment challenges.

“They also have a positive impact on young people in the communities where we operate by providing good quality training and experience in a number of IT roles.”

Those who are recruited will learn a range of skills, from project management to business analysis.

Mr Ransom said: ““We’re delighted to be looking for further talented candidates and we’d like to invite people across the board to apply.

“This is a good opportunity for people living in Worthing to learn customer-focused IT skills such as service desk, project management, business analysis and infrastructure at the VOA with a view to enhancing their future employment opportunities.”

In March, a group of VOA IT apprentices visited 10 Downing Street to celebrate their success in passing stages of the ICT professional apprenticeship

qualification.

One of the apprentices, Frances Dean, 18, said: “This opportunity is definitely making people think about whether there is an alternative to university. “I would recommend it. It’s a big jump, but it’s definitely worthwhile.

“And you’re still getting qualifications that you might have gone on to do at college, you’re getting paid and you’re also getting experience.”

Applicants who impress will be invited to an assessment day on July 17.
