Gruelling bike ride for Worthing policemen

POLICEMEN will embark on an epic charity bike ride when they cycle 900 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Ian Cheesman and Andy Baynes live in Goring and Arundel but work for Sussex Police out of Bognor Regis.

The pair are currently in training for the gruelling charity ride, which takes place from June 2 to June 11.

Funds raised from the ride will go to Cancer Research UK, which Ian chose as the pair’s charity after two of his friends died from the illness last June and almost nine years ago.

A former competitive cyclist, Ian, from Mulberry Lane, said he had always wanted to complete the ride and had managed to persuade Andy, from Ford Lane, to join him.

Ian, 43, said: “I’ve always wanted to do the ride anyway because I’m a keen cyclist, but I also lost a couple of friends to cancer and thought if we’re doing it we might as well do it for charity.”

The pair currently train by riding across the county and have travelled as far as Billingshurst and Haywayrds Heath during their rides.

They will continue to increase the intensity and duration of the rides before the event.

Ian added: “I’m quietly confident that we’re going to do it.”
