Head teacher leaves St Andrews High School in Worthing

THE end of term this week has sparked fond farewells to the head teacher at St Andrew's High School.

Steve Jewell will be leaving the school in Sackville Road, Broadwater, this week after nearly 12 years at its helm.

Mr Jewell, who joined St Andrew's in September, 1997, is looking forward to taking up the post of principal-designate at The Littlehampton Academy, taking with him many happy memories of his time in Worthing.

He will be replaced next term by Steve Mercer, who is deputy headteacher at Bishop Luffa School in Chichester.

Mr Jewell said: "It has been an honour to be head teacher and immensely encouraging to see how we have been blessed in so many ways.

"We have grown from 400 to 750 students, seen exam results go up significantly, strengthened our distinctive Christian ethos and been oversubscribed for many years.

"I would like to thank staff, governors and parents for all for their support and wish Mr Mercer well as he takes over."

Mr Mercer, a committed Christian, aims to build on the strong foundations laid by Mr Jewell and take the school from "good" to "outstanding".

The governors thanked Mr Jewell for his outstanding service and Christian commitment to St Andrew's and wished him well in his new role.
