This means adults and children with lung problems, heart problems, and asthma should reduce strenuous physical activity, particularly outdoors.

The pollution levels are expected to improve tomorrow (Friday March 20), and be clear by Saturday.

A DEFRA spokesperson said, “Winds bringing in pollution from the continent, combined with locally generated pollution and still weather conditions has led to some high pollution measurements across the UK. Levels are expected to go down later today with moderate or low levels predicted for tomorrow.”
