Staff and residents at York Lodge in Worthing have celebrated 30 years of care at the specialist home.
Everything at the home, in York Road, is driven by the needs, abilities and aspirations of its residents.
Assistant manager Natalie Worfolk said: “We are so very proud of our home and of our achievements in delivering high-quality care to our residents.
“York Lodge is a specialist residential care home, which caters for the social and healthcare needs for people with enduring mental health issues.”
The property was previously a bed and breakfast hotel. Austen and Marie Harrity saw the need and potential for a care home specialising in mental health support, rehabilitation and assisted living, so opened the home in 1988.
Initially, residents were people who needed support in relearning the tools necessary to live independently, after a psychiatric placement. Over time, many came to see it as home and chose to stay permanently.
The home now caters for people with a variety of physical and mobility issues.
