A severe weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for the south east this evening (Wednesday January 13) and overnight.

Showery rain, some heavy, will hit the region between 5pm and 3am.

There is also a risk of thunder and some localised flooding, with drivers warned surface water on roads could affect driving conditions.

Experts believe 15 to 20mm of rain could fall in a short space of time, leading to some flooding.

The showers are expected to clear during the early hours of Thursday morning.
