Hedge planters dig in as good weather holds

Fifteen volunteers wore wellies when they planted some 50 metres of native hedges on the Bersted Brooks.

They made the most of a rare spell of fine weather to help create a dedicated wildlife area.

The turnout for last Friday'splanting session delighted Arun District Council's community parks officer, Daphne Fisher.

She is hosting another planting session at the Rowan Way site between 10.15am and 12.30pm this Saturday.

"Anyone who wants to have a bit of fun and help wildlife at the same time should come along on Saturday," she said.

"But they should remember to bring their wellies.

"The holes were filling up with water as we dug them on Friday."

Two new information boards about the wetlands have been installed to increase public awareness.

The car park for the Bersted Brooks is sited next to the caravan site on the north side of Rowan Way, almost opposite the vehicle entrance to the retail park with Halfords and Matalan.
