Helping parents with homework

Free parent courses at the Kip McGrath tuition centre are to receive further funding by East Sussex Family Learning.

Directors of the centre in Beeching Road, Sian Crossland and Steph Dudson, have been told they will receive ESCC funding to set up courses after Easter because the ones they have already held have been so successful.

The courses are available for parents and guardians who want to learn to benefit themselves and their children by understanding what is required at school.

There will be three courses -a numeracy 'Keeping up with the Children' course and a literacy course that gives a nationally recognised exam qualification at the end. Both of these are aimed at adults who want a little help when it comes to dealing with homework issues.

There will also be a webwise course to help keep children safe on the Internet, and what steps can be taken to protect them.
