The company came up with the photo competition idea to encourage the over-60s to explore the town outside their front doors and capture on film the very best that Worthing has to offer.

Sharon Callcut, regional marketing manager for McCarthy & Stone, said: “As part of Amelia Court itself is Grade II listed, we very much appreciate the secret wonders that the town of Worthing has in store.

“Many of the town’s older residents will have seen how Worthing has changed over their lifetimes, and will instinctively be aware of the hidden spots where the town is at its most picturesque.

“This is their opportunity to share that knowledge and we really can’t wait to see the results.

“There are no rules as to what can be photographed, we just want to see Worthing through the eyes of the people who know it best.

“Hopefully, the images taken will then serve as an inspiration to others to take a closer look at what a great town this is.”

The winner’s original photo will be published in the Herald and on the walls of Amelia Court and the photographer will take home £350.

Two runners-up will win £100.

To take part, readers should email their favourite shots, along with their contact details to [email protected] or post to Worthing Through a Lens, C/O Haslimann Taylor, 1 Wrens Court, 53 Lower Queens Street, Sutton Coldfield, B72 1RT.
