Heroic Adam Tester, 33, of Boxgrove, Goring, suffered superficial burns to his hands and feet when he saved the lives of his three young daughters.

The girls’ mother and Mr Tester’s fiancée, Shelley Cave, managed to escape the smoke-logged house by climbing out of an upstairs window and onto the roof of her neighbour’s conservatory.

Miss Cave, 27, said when she saw her girls were safe she had never felt relief like it.

“While I was on the phone to 999 I said ‘I’m going to die,” she said. “It was so quick and so intense I just thought that was it.

“Adam saved us all. I wouldn’t have been able to get the children out.”
