Courtlands, a former mansion house with a history dating back to 1906, has been put up for sale for £2million.

Located off of tree-lined Parklands Avenue in Goring, the three storey building has a Grade II listing and is set within four and a half acres of landscaped grounds which include a lake.

The land has had an interesting and varied history since it was transformed into the mansion house by Paul Schweder, an ex-Army officer, in the early 1900s.

Used as the headquarters of the Canadian first army during the war, the mansion was then bought by Worthing Hospital in 1945 to be used for post-operative recovery.

Queen Elizabeth, then a princess, visited in 1951 to formally open the building.

It continued to be used as a hospital for 22 years, before becoming home to the Area Health Authority.

The mansion was then converted into offices by Bond International Software, which has been based at the site for the past 17 years.

Lisa Masterson, head of human resources, called it an ‘inspiring and peaceful setting’.

Anyone interested in the site, which could be developed into a hotel, wedding venue or homes, contact estate agents Michael Jones on 01903 201212.
