Holding a torch for brave teenager

BEXHILL teenager Jordan Whitewood-Neal is hoping to carry the Olympic torch when it comes to our area.

He has been nominated for the role and would be “thrilled” to be picked according to mum Tracy.

She commented: “I think it is a very historic event and there will be a brilliant atmosphere and brilliant feeling if he was to do it.”

She added that while a person only needs one nomination, Jordan has received backing from friends and supporters and this number is growing all the time.

Jordan, now 16, said: “Basically I think that being a torch bearer would let me represent my town and Britain and I just think it would a memorable experience and an honour.”

A Bexhill High pupil about to face exams, Jordan has inspired many because of how he deals with the impact of Proteus Syndrome, a rare condition affecting his bone development.

Jordan was one of the Year 11 students who took part in their now traditional shirt-signing ceremony - but he used his prosthetic legs instead.

He is due for a new pair so got his friends to sign the old ones to keep.

Tracy said: “They were absolutely covered with people’s signatures. There were so many he needed to take his shoes and socks off so they could sign them as well.”
