A HOMELESS man was savagely beaten unconscious and slashed across the face by a gang in Worthing town centre.

The 39-year-old victim was in Warwick Street or Chapel Road when he was confronted by a gang of men and women who assaulted him on the evening of Wednesday, June 17, police revealed today (Friday, June 26).

One of the men slashed him across the face and head with a blade. The victim suffered cuts to his face and a broken nose and was knocked out.

When the victim woke he was being treated in Worthing Hospital.

Detective Constable Lee Simmonds said: “We don’t know why the man was attacked or who the attackers were.

“The victim has said there were both men and women in the gang that attacked him but they could actually be older boys or girls rather than adults.

“We need to find anyone who saw the victim being attacked or who may have seen him lying on the ground after he was knocked out.

“This was a nasty attack and we need the help of the community to find him.”
