Hopes of spring start on cancer unit work

A planning application for the £3m cancer day unit at St Richard's Hospital finally has been submitted.

The news comes as fundraising moves into its final phase, with hopes high that construction work can begin in the spring.

The cancer day unit will bring together cancer and haematology activity in a single location within the hospital with out-patient and day case consultation and treatment rooms all linked to the main hospital.

"The planning application takes us another step closer to starting construction of the new cancer day unit," chairman of the cancer day unit appeal committee, Annie Simson, said.

"The fundraising committee is organising a turf cutting ceremony at the hospital, which will be held in February."
