Horse rescued from ditch

RYE firefighters joined forces with an animal rescue unit from Kent to free a horse that had got stuck in a ditch at Iden.

Forty-two year old mare Locky was stuck in a ditch at Houghton Green.

Rye firefighters freed her with the help of lifting gear from the Cranbrook based rescue unit.

There was some concern over Locky’s well-being due to her age, which is very old for a horse.

Local man Tom Kimmitt, who raised the alarm, said: “A vet was called from Badgers Gate Northiam, we were told that she was fine except for some bruising.

“The smiles on all the rescuers faces when they were told was a picture, I would like to thank them all for their care and a job well done.”
