Horsham murder and attempted murder in Haywards Heath

TWO men have been arrested and charged in West Sussex over Easter - one on suspicion of murder in Horsham and the other on an attempted murder charge in Haywards Heath.

Police have charged a Horsham man with murder after the body of a woman was found in a flat in the Needles estate on Saturday (March 22).

Martin James Garratty, 40, of Godwin Court, in Jockey Mead, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Crawley Magistrates Court tomorrow (Tuesday March 25).

A Sussex Police spokesperson said the body of a woman in her 60s was found in a different Godwin Court flat shortly before midnight on Saturday.

The woman is believed to be Rhona Heywood.

Colin Edwards (23) of Bentswood Close, Haywards Heath appeared before Crawley magistrates on Monday accused of attempted murder on Good Friday of Brian Blake ( 63), also of Bentswood Crescent, Haywards Heath.

He was remanded in custody to appearat Lewes Crown Court on April 7.

The victim received multiple stab wounds and is in a serious but stable condition in the Royal London Hospital

The first man was arrested on suspicion of murder after police found a woman dead in a Horsham flat.

Police were called to the flat at Godwin Court on the Needles estate, Horsham, just before midnight on Saturday.
