Houses may be replaced by flats

Three Bognor Regis houses could be demolished and replaced by 24 apartments.

Provincial and Western Homes Ltd wants Arun District Council to approve its plans to knock down the detached properties in Sylvan Way.

The company has secured the agreement of the owners of Beaumaris, Stapleford and Holyrood to buy them. The houses were built in the late 1950s as individually styled chalet style two-storey properties.

It intends to build sheltered accommodation for the elderly comprising 24 apartments in their place with communal facilities, access, parking and a landscaped amenity space. Seventeen of the flats would have one-bedroom and the other seven would be two-bedroomed.

A guest bedroom suite would also be provided on the top floor for the exclusive use by the residents' relatives or carers.

Michael Cook Associates, planning and property consultants, in a statement with the planning application says: 'The development comprises a T-shape building arranged primarily over two floors with a small amount of accommodation provided within the roof space.'

A small section would be 2.5 storeys high towards its western end to reflect the mixed heights of the existing properties.

Vehicular and pedestrian access is proposed from Sylvan Way along the west boundary where an eight-space car park will be created.
