HSBC to close branches in Lancing and Worthing

Research carried out by ASDA Money has revealed the top ten houseshare bugbears

In a letter addressed to Tim Loughton, MP for East Worthing and Shoreham, Jonathan Byrne, HSBC’s regional director, announced the branches would close on Friday, December 11.

There will be no redundancies as a result of the closures, with staff being redeployed to other branches.

Letters are being sent out to affected customers on Monday. The administration of their accounts will be relocated to HSBC’s Worthing town centre branch.

Mr Byrne said: “We have made this decision with great reluctance, but after a careful analysis of the branches’ commercial viability it was clear that they were no longer generating the custom necessary to justify their continued operation.”

He cited a shift in customer banking habits, from in branch to mobile and online banking, as a reason for the decline in footfall at the sites.

He said: “In response to these changing patterns we need to ensure that our branches are in the right locations and we invest in the development of our internet and mobile facilities.

“Unfortunately that means we sometimes have to close branches to ensure our network remains fit for purpose.”
