‘Huge support’ for music at Splash FM summer party

THIS year’s Splash FM open air concert was performed to near full capacity on
Saturday, in Worthing’s Steyne Gardens.

Nearly 5,000 people went along to listen to the music and enjoy the atmosphere at the Splash FM garden party, which has become a major highlight of the Worthing summer calender since its inception in 2002.

Headling the show this year were East Grinstead-based band Chic Le Freak, a six piece group paying tribute to the music of Nile Rogers, the man universally regarded as the most important figure in the disco explosion of the late 1970s.

As well as performing with his own band Chic, Nile Rodgers also created hits for Madonna, Diana Ross, David Bowie and Sister Sledge.

Chic Le Freak played hits from all of these timeless artists in their electrifying show.

Mel Gaynor of Simple Minds joined the band as a celebrity guest drummer for the Steyne Gardens show stopper.

Also performing were Rule the World, the UK’s premier Take That tribute with their striking visual resemblance to Gary, Mark, Howard and Jason.

The boys, supported by their four-piece band The 11th Hour, thrilled the family audience with their renditions of Take That’s biggest hits spanning the Manchester band’s 25-year history.

The long standing tradition of local bands opening the garden party continued this year with Murdoch’s Crazy Eyes making a
stunning debut.

All-girl trio Violet and The Alice Band returned for a third year to complete the supporting line-up.

During the evening a collection was held for Guild Care, Splash FM’s charity of the year

Nearly £1,000 was raised.

The money will assist the charity in the fantastic work they do supporting those suffering from dementia in the local community.

Also on the stage was the cheque presentation to a Splash FM listener who recently scooped £5,260 in the ‘What’s the Word’ competition; which had been running for 11 and a half months, before Miranda Brookman from Worthing correctly guessed the missing word.

Splash FM’s operations director, David Cunningham, who leads the planning for the garden party, said: “This event continues to grow
and it is a pleasure for Splash FM to bring so much
positive energy together in the town.

“It wouldn’t be possible without the huge support Splash FM receives from the many local companies who support the event and the local suppliers who provide the sound, light, video, plant, photography and catering.

“Thanks also to Adur and Worthing Council, Worthing NSL, St John Ambulance, the emergency services and most of all the amazing people of Worthing who turned out in such force once again.”
