Hundreds of youngsters to play in Worthing concert

Around 300 young musicians from across the county will be showcasing their talents at a one-off concert on Saturday (November 17).

The show, at Worthing’s Assembly Hall, has been organised by the West Sussex Music Service to mark its new partnership scheme.

Manager Colin Arenstein said: “Youngsters from our County Youth Orchestra, Big Band and Worthing Concert Band will all be playing. We will be celebrating the new West Sussex Music Partnership which will see us join with a number of other organisations to provide education across the county.”

The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, is to raise money for The Snowdrop Trust, which helps care for terminally ill children. It will also mark a successful year for the Music Service which has seen the number of adults and children learning with the organisation rise to more than 15,000.

Peter Griffiths, county council cabinet member for education and schools, said the show promises to be a highly entertaining event from accomplished young musicians.

He added: “Music is a vital part of education and the new partnerships will allow us to join together with many different groups in West Sussex to help children and adults to learn to sing and play.”

Tickets, £7.50, from 01903 206206.
