CHURCH NEWS: The 9.30am service for the eleventh Sunday after Trinity will be Parish Eucharist led by Rev. Bill Dolman. Tomorrow, Saturday, is commemorated as the Transfiguration of Our Lord. On Tuesday we remember Mary Summer, the Founder of the Mothers’ Union, or, as it is affectionately known, The Mothers’ Onion. Janet Pegg is asking for cakes and produce for the Church Stall at the fete. All donations gratefully received.

CHURCH MARKETS: The Winchelsea Market is this Saturday, August 6, from 10.30am until noon. The huge Country Fair is on August 13 on the main road, so traffic could be interesting. Icklesham Market is on Saturday August 20 from 11am until 2pm.

WEATHER: That pesky jet stream is flowing right across the south and middle of England, bringing in the Atlantic weather systems. In other words, wet weather. The gardens probably do need some rain but we would rather it came in the night, not during the day. There are huge cracks appearing in my garden, indicating that the clay sub-layer is drying out. Cross your fingers and toes for a dry day on Saturday.

FETE AND FLOWER SHOW: All the fun of the fair opens at 1pm on Saturday and continues until 4pm. There will be a Brass Band, Rye Dance performances, Dog Show, Country games, lots of stalls and attractions, licensed bar, barbecue, teas, coffee and cakes in the hall and lots of friends. Running concurrently will be the Horticultural Society Annual Summer Show. All that is needed is plenty of people and sunshine. Hope the weatherman is preparing to be co-operative.

THANKS: Thanks to all those who turned up for the pre-Fete tidy up on the Recreation ground last Saturday. Special thanks to Phil for providing the bacon rolls, that was much appreciated. Stalls, gazebos etc are being erected at 9am and all clubs are invited to get involved. Help will also be required at the end of the day putting all the equipment away.

CRICKET MATCH: Stuart has arranged a 30 Over a side cricket match at Icklesham on August 21 starting at 1.30pm. The New Pavilion XI will play Icklesham Casuals FC. It is £10 per player which includes tea. No studs to be worn on the artificial pitch. If you would like to play, please contact Stuart on [email protected] and you will be very welcome. It is intended to be a friendly game and therefore ability is not important. Bats and pads etc will be provided. Sounds like fun to me. A sponsor for the Match would be very much appreciated. In return we will advertise on the day and publicise in all our pre and post-match reports.
