Well, ‘Iden Fete’ has done it again! What an amazing, time everyone had last Saturday 26th July, on ‘Iden Fete’ day. At one point I looked across at the whole glorious tableau, which was our fete in progress, and it reminded me of a 1000 piece jigsaw, depicting fun and frivolity, everyone in bright summer clothes, engrossed in a host of activity. Dotted hither and thither were people in ‘Iden Fete Committee’ tee shirts [those familiar red beacons], there to help, and to pave the way towards a fete as near perfect as possible. I am not even going to try to name all the individuals who helped, but suffice to say, everyone who helped in ways large or small is a star .Iden folk en masse are inoculated with pizzazz, when it comes to the fete .The number of people to thank is so vast, that if I left someone out, I’d never forgive myself. All I can say is that people work tirelessly, and the profits from the fete are ploughed back into the village, to enable year long benefits from that one special day in July

There will be a service of Holy Communion in Iden Parish Church, on Sunday 3rd August at 9.30 am

There will be a service held around the War Memorial on Monday 4th August to commemorate the centenary or the first World War and those that gave their lives in both World Wars. Afterwards every one is most welcome to come back to the village hall where the Pop In will be holding a buffet lunch. It would be nice to be with friends after such a poignant service. The Pop In starts at 11 am. Any donations of food would be most welcome, sweet or savoury [food can be brought to the hall from 9am on ward. [just anything any one enjoys baking would be most appreciated]

Bingo will be held in the village hall on Thursday August.7th Doors open at 2pm, eyes down at 2.30pm.

On the 23rd, 24th and 25th of August there will be a ‘Tribute In Flowers in Iden Parish Church, to commemorate the ‘First World War’ The Church floral group will arrange flowers to depict that poignant time. Refreshments will be available in the ‘Old Hall’ [by the church]. Cakes for this event would be much appreciated.

Now, getting back to fete day, it’s a time for helping each other, recognising each other’s worth., and pooling our resources. It’s a day when we are made to appreciate our local tradesmen, without whose help we would be at a loss Not only must we thank our own Geoff and Elizabeth in Iden Stores, and Jempsons, but a host of businesses who helped so much. We appreciate everyone [all our punters]who support us by turning up, partaking of our frivolity, and bringing the family. Every one is exhausted after the fete. .It’s, a combination of too much heat, too much food and too much fun, and they are hardly able to put one foot in front of the other. It’s a happy, satisfied kind of exhaustion though, and yet lo and behold, people migrated to ‘The Bell’ afterwards for even more fun. They sat back and let John, Lindsey and their staff bathe them in much needed hospitality. There was a barbeque, and a rock and roll band called ‘Something Else’ bopping us into midnight. I was in bed with a ‘John Grisham’ and a packet of crisps [salt and vinegar] and the music and happy laughter was drifting through my open window. It was great. For two pins I’d have been jumping on that bed but I don’t think the mattress would take it!
