Independent candidate wins Lancing by-election

AN INDEPENDENT candidate has won the costly Lancing by-election.

Lancing resident, Lionel Parsons, won the by-election for the contested Manor ward seat, which took place yesterday (Thursday, March 3).

Mr Parsons, 63, of Pratton Avenue, beat his Liberal Democrat opponent, Stuart Douch, by 62 votes.

In total, Mr Douch got 110 votes, compared to Mr Parsons who won with 172 votes.

There were four rejected votes.

Despite 3,137 residents registered to vote, there was only a nine per cent turnout.
