It's farewell to long-serving school secretary in Bognor Regis

Long-serving Sue Foden has left a Bognor Regis school after working there for more than half its existence.

Mrs Foden has ended 25 years as the secretary of The Glade Infant School with her retirement.

That quarter of a century of loyalty had seen her register 3,740 children to begin their education in its Westloats Lane premises.

Some 30 or 40 of them have returned in recent years with their children to add to Mrs Foden's satisfaction with her job.

She said: "I've got mixed feelings about going but I'm 65 and it's the right time to retire and for someone new to come in.

"I've loved working here. Every day has been different and never really changes. They are as lovely as ever. That is one of the big things I shall miss."

Mrs Foden was taken on at the school by its second headteacher, Irene James, just 20 years after it opened in September 1984.

She had worked in various jobs in hotels and in a bank before she wanted to return to work after her two children had grown up.

The Glade's buildings have remained unchanged during her lengthy time working in them. But there have been major improvements in its grounds to provide more activities for its pupils. Mrs Foden said goodbye at a special end-of-term assembly.

She plans to use her new free time by enjoying her four grandchildren more as well as gardening at her Waterloo Road home in Felpham.
