Jail sentence for cannabis grower

A man from Bognor Regis has been given nearly two years in prison for cultivating cannabis with a street value of £20,000 at his home.

Barry Milligan, 43, of Rose Green Road, was sentenced on October 19 at a hearing of Chichester Crown Court for the offences which also included possession of a quantity of ecstasy tablets which were found in a raid on his property.

In the police operation in July 2009, officers discovered 100 cannabis plants which were set up in a hydroponics bay within a loft.

A police spokesperson said: "This conviction was due to the strong neighbourhood operational work which we have carried out in this area and the fact this warranted a custodial sentence showed how seriously we take these matters."

In a separate raid on a property at Tamarisk Road, a woman was arrested after 24 cannabis plants were discovered within the home.

She was bailed last week to next appear before court in December.
