JENKINS FREED ON BAIL

FORMER deputy head teacher Sion Jenkins, now facing a retrial for the alleged murder of his foster daughter Billie-Jo, was today (Monday) freed on bail.

He was not at the Old Bailey for the hearing, but is expected to be freed later from prison.

The 46-year-old was jailed for life six years ago - but his conviction was quashed earlier this month.

His family came forward with 300,000 surety as part of bail conditions.

Other conditions state Jenkins has to live in Wales until the retrial, expected to be with his parents in Aberystwyth, west Wales.

And he must have no contact with his daughters, including email.

He has been held at maximum security Wakefield jail.

Jenkins was convicted in July 1998 of beating his 13-year-old foster daughter to death with an 18-inch metal tent spike.

It was said to have happened as she was painting a patio door at their home in Hastings.

Last month, appeal judges quashed the original conviction and said fresh forensic evidence made it unsafe.
