Jiyan has a cold head, but it’s all for a good cause

IN a bid to raise money for charity, Jiyan Turran took a deep breath and said goodbye to his curly locks at the Broadwater Cancer Research shop.

In front of a supportive audience, Jiyan, a pupil at Downsbrook Middle School in Worthing, had his hair shaved off to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The 11-year-old said: “My head now feels quite cold.

“It was really fun though and I’m proud I did it.”

The event raised £220 for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to the family’s hearts after several relatives were diagnosed with the disease.

Jiyan’s mother Neslihan Turran, 36, volunteers at the Cancer Research store.

Neslihan, of Leigh Road, Broadwater, said the day was even more successful than they thought it would be.

“It was really enjoyable and we didn’t expect it to go that well. We had people gathered outside the shop and some even threw money out of their car windows,” she added.

Jiyan said he had great support from family and school friends and he is determined to do more charity fundraisers in the future.
