Job-loss fears at Worthing firm

A GROUP of 75 people had to spend Christmas not knowing whether they will have jobs in the new year, after the company they work for announced it was cutting jobs.

Allergy Therapeutics, a speciality pharmaceutical company focused on the treatment and prevention of allergy, in Dominion Way, Worthing, has informed staff they could face redundancy, as the firm wants to remove up to 23 positions.

One member of staff at risk said: “What a way to say Merry Christmas to your employees.

“I am extremely angry with regards to their timing and feel the people of Worthing have a right to know about the terrible emotional situation this company has put their employees in at what should be a time of celebration.”

Employees were notified about the redundancies two weeks ago by the company’s chief executive.

“The staff are concerned as quite a few departments facing the cuts are already stretched with the amount of work they already have,” added the member of staff, who asked to remain anonymous.

“This is the second round of redundancies for this company in the last year.

“It really is sad to see people depressed and suffering at this important time of year.”

A spokesman for the company said: “Allergy Therapeutics regrets that it is making a small number of redundancies – particularly at this time of year.

“We have had to take this decision in response to the difficult economic environment to ensure that the company remains profitable.”
