Josh Gifford memorial service held at Chichester Cathedral

MORE than 800 people gathered at Chichester Cathedral today (Thursday, March 1) to celebrate the life of a Findon horse racing legend.

Friends and family of Josh Gifford gathered at the cathedral to share their memories of the “brilliantly talented” jockey and trainer.

Josh’s children, Tina Cook and Nick Gifford, read the poem Courage by David Harkins, sharing the last line: “Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.”

His friend, Claude Duval, brought a smile to the face of many of the congregation with his anecdotes about Josh’s early days on the racing circuit.

He described Josh as a “true racing legend”.

Josh’s godson, Nick Luck, summed him up as “outstanding but understated, brilliantly talented and truly warm-hearted”.
