Jubilee celebrations planned

A FANTASTIC weekend of events to celebrate the Queen s Golden Jubilee is being lined up for Seaford.

A FANTASTIC weekend of events to celebrate the Queen s Golden Jubilee is being lined up for Seaford.

The town council has earmarked 6,000 for festivities starting May 31.

A working party, consisting of councillors Jill Rosser, Julian Peterson and Jon Freeman, town clerk Len Fisher and Downs Leisure Centre manager Stuart Adcock, has proposed a programme of events which would include:

lA Big Band dance evening.

lA children s party with magician and film show.

lA talent show and disco.

The annual Seaford Family Fun Day will be brought forward to coincide with Jubilee events and will have a theme of The Past 50 Years with stallholders dressed in period costume.

The Seaford Striders running club has volunteered to organise a children s sports afternoon and a large television would be hired to show the England v Sweden World Cup match which is due to be played on June 2.

It is proposed celebrations would be brought to a close with a fun run on June 3 and the raising of Seaford s Seaside Award Flag with a sea display by Coastguard, Lifeboat, lifeguards and Seaford Sailing Club.

This would be followed by a Grand Finale Barbecue at the Salts recreation ground.

Speaking at the town council meeting on Thursday last week, council leader Laurie Holland praised the variety of the line up.

He said: 'A lot of thought has gone into this to get the right balance of events to cater for all tastes and age groups.

The council plans to invite sponsors to minimise costs.

Cllr Julian Peterson added: 'We want to include as many people as possible and keep charges as low as possible.
