Mr Midwinter, who has been principal since April, said: “The reason the school had not come out of special measures before was because of the leadership, management and the governance of the Academy, as well as the quality of teaching and learning.

“What has been clearly demonstrated is a new phase of leadership supported by a very pro-active academy council, which was not established in the same way as it is now. There is a strong emphasis on raising the quality of teaching and learning.”
