Lancing girls rewarded for bravery and kindness

A SCHOOLGIRL who underwent a major operation has received an award '“ and her closest friend got one, too.

Six-year-old Victoria Bellinger has spent six months with a special, metal frame pinned to her left leg, but has remained cheerful throughout, taking part in all possible school activities.

And her best friend and classmate at Sompting Village Primary School, seven-year-old Crystal Hughes, has been with her every step of the way.

Sompting Village Primary assistant head Helen Burdell, who is also their class teacher, said: "Victoria has remained cheerful and she has never complained '“ not ever.

"Even if she has missed school, she has done the work at home. She has been a little heroine, really."

Great Ormond Street

Victoria had to get used to being moved around in a wheelchair, but was due to have the frame and pins removed from her leg on Thursday, March 26, at London's Great Ormond Street hospital for children.

Both girls have been presented with awards by the school.

Victoria's is for bravery, cheerfulness, patience and hard work, while Crystal's is for friendship, kindness, patience and reliability.

Mrs Burdell said: "Crystal is her friend ,anyway, but she has been there for her every hour of the day."

Friendship

Over the last six monthd Crystal has looked out for Victoria every day, even waiting for her to arrive at school and taking her coat for her.

"She doesn't think about herself," said Mrs Burdell.

"They have been beautiful together. It is real friendship.

"I don't think I have ever seen a greater friendship between two young people."
