George Davin, 22, from Lancing, has a rare condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which causes his joints to dislocate constantly, especially his shoulders.

After trying several treatments on the NHS, the family decided to have a private consultation with one of the best shoulder specialists in the country.

Now George is calling on locals to help raise funds for his vital shoulder surgery.

“I’m really overwhelmed by all of the generous donations I’ve received in such a short amount of time,” said George.

“I’ve even had complete strangers donating – it’s incredible.”

George said he was promised life-changing surgery in March this year but when he was transferred back to the NHS, the plans fell through.

While waiting for surgery George was forced to defer his final year studying English Literature at the University of Brighton at a non-refundable financial cost of £9,000.

He said he ‘lost a year’ of his life and had an increasingly difficult time coping with the emotional and psychical strain of having to take strong, mind-blurring drugs to cope with the pain.

He has once again turned to the private sector and the essential shoulder surgery he needs costs £7,000.

As the Herald went to press, George had raised an incredible £2,498 – with funds rapidly increasing.

The fund includes a generous donation from the famous American slam-poet and rapper, George Watsky.

George’s mother Jane Dutton is urging people to help.

She said: “Please dig deep and help George enjoy a life alongside his peers, and allow us to stand back with the knowledge that he is capable of living the independent life he so deserves.”

George has signed up for his final year at university once again and hopes he can raise funds as quickly as possible so he can ‘change his life’.

“George’s fundraising campaign for his surgery has been incredibly successful raising over £2,458 in just over two weeks,” said Kelsea Little, media director at GoFundMe.com.
