Largely positive reaction to pier pavilion plans

PLANS to turn a former nightclub at the end of Worthing Pier into a multi-use wedding venue have been met with a largely positive reaction.

Local businessman Phil Duckett is in advanced talks with Worthing Borough Council, and hopes to restore the Southern Pavilion to its former glory – with plans including a wedding and events venue, and café.

And the feeling amongst several traders is relief the ‘iconic’ building is finally being put to good use.

John Robinson, owner of Inspired by the Sea, in The Promenade, Worthing, said: “It’s about time something was done with it. It’s one of the most iconic buildings we have in Worthing.”

Paul O’Brien, owner of Candy Love in Montague Street, agreed.

He said: “Having anything there is better than an empty building.

“The plans sound like something a bit different, and the bidder seems willing to put a lot of money into it, so must be confident it will work.”
