The leisure centre in Manor Road has received a £35,330 grant from Sport England towards the £93,000 project.

The money is part of a £10million National Lottery grant from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.

A grant of £18,000 has also been awarded by The Veolia Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Centre manager Stuart James said: “Our ultimate aim is to provide existing and new members with a better service and more amenities.

“Creating a new studio will allow us to increase our mind body classes offering, which we know members have been asking for, and it also frees up more space on studio timetable, so we can offer additional fitness classes, too.”

The new wellbeing studio will also double up as a community meeting room where local businesses can hold meetings or members throw parties.

The new café will be moved into the previous De Brock suite, giving the facility extra room for a more welcoming social area.

The café will be Coffee Republic-branded with a new menu and bar, which will be available for hire in the evenings and weekends.

The project is due to be completed at the beginning of March. The centre will remain open while works take place.
