THREE Littlehampton neighbours raised more than 2,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust by closing the road and inviting people to come and see their houses on Friday night.

An estimated 1,400 people gathered in Highdown Drive for the spectacular illuminations and they were not disappointed by the dazzling display switched on by special guest, actress June Whitfield.

In addition, neighbours Roy Spencer, Dave Bensusan and Kevin Maysey added a little Christmas magic to the evening with the aid of a snow machine and a firework display.

Roy s 18-month-old granddaughter, Abigail, suffers from cystic fibrosis and it was this which inspired him to organise Friday s charity event. Roy was overwhelmed by the support and thanked everyone for their help and generosity.

"The evening was very well attended considering the awful weather. People are still coming up to us and making donations. We are hoping to have raised 3,000 by Christmas."

He thanked June Whitfield, who braved the wind and rain to sign autographs and talk to people throughout the evening, and he thanked Littlehampton mayor Mark Butler for his help and support.
