A-Level: Angmering School proud of exceptional results

The school saw a 99 per cent pass rate, with the number of results at A* to B rising from 40 per cent last year to 42 per cent his year.

Head teacher David Brixey said: “Yet again, our sixth form students have done well and the school is proud.

“The overall results are an improvement on last year. This is very significant in a time of change for the examination system and financial constraints for post-16 education. We are particularly proud that all of our Year 13 students were well set up with places at university or in employment.”

Students celebrating this morning include Zandile Powell (A*AAB) with an additional A* in the extended project and will go on to study Human, Social and Political Sciences at Cambridge.

Other outstanding performers include Mitko Oldfield (A*AA) Matt Wilkinson(A*AB) and Callum Escott (A*ABD).

Mitko plans to study physics at the University of York, Matt will study biochemistry at the University of Bath, Callum will read geography at the University of Newcastle.

Sophie Williams, 20, also excelled, clinching two As, a B and a distinction star in science.

She also managed to complete a full science A-level in just a year and now heads to Chichester University to read special needs studies.

She said: “I’ve always loved working with special needs children and in my gap year I worked as a teaching assistant in a special needs school. “I was a bit speechless, as I did English in a year and wasn’t expecting to do that well.”

Charlotte Smart, 18, will study adult nursing at Cardiff - her dream university and course.

She said: “I’ve always wanted to do nursing and go to Cardiff. I volunteered in A&E in Chichester.”

The school’s AS results were also promising with particularly strong performances from Bethan Williams (AAAA) Matt Francis (AAAB) Adam Woodard (AAAA) and Georgia Towson (AABB).

Aaron Collis, 17, has lofty ambitions of studying natural science at Cambridge and is on the right track, after getting straight-As at AS level.

“It is a good day,” he said. “You become all stressed and then it’s good when you have some good news. I was pretty tired at the end of the exam period and I had done every past paper on the AQA website to revise.

“If I had got a B I would have thought I would have had to do really well next year to get into Cambridge.”

Jake Gander, 18, plans to study maths at university after an A at A-level, plus a B and two As at AS level. He said: “It took a lot of revision and a lot of past papers. I’m not sure where I want to go, yet.”
