Library service ups its digital offering

PEOPLE can now download free eBooks, eAudio and eMagazines for their tablet, smartphone, or eBook readers, thanks to the West Sussex library service.

Most eBook readers are compatible with the service including the Kindle Fire, but with the exception of the Kindle first-generation and Paperwhite models. People can borrow seven eBooks and ten eAudio files for up to 21 days. When the loan period comes to an end, the eBook will automatically be deleted from their account, so there are no late fees.

There are currently more than 2,000 eBook and eAudio titles to choose from and the list is growing daily.

Each eAudio title has unlimited availability so there are no waiting lists. People can also choose from 100 popular magazine titles to download and read online, covering everything from food to computers and music.

County councillor Lionel Barnard, cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “We want to attract a new audience who prefer to read digitally. We also hope this new service will increase access to our libraries for our customers who find it difficult to visit a physical library.” All people need to get started is their library card number and PIN. Then, they should log on to the website www.westsussex.gov.uk/ebooks
