Outgoing president Bob Chalcraft thanked members for all their hard work and support over the year which has seen more than £25,000 donated to local causes.

He spoke about his pleasure at achieving two aims for the year-to recruit six new members after a highly successful awareness evening and to raise the profile of the club within the community.

Other highlights from the year included the Seafront Festival being nominated for and winning the Herald and Gazette Community Event of the Year, hosting the World Blind Bowls Championship, a new fireworks event in November and the Easter Extravaganza.

Lions also heard how the website was becoming more and more established and the charity also had a Facebook page.

Bob’s final task as president was to present the Melvin Jones Fellowship award to Marian Down.

Named after the founder of Lions Club International, the Fellowship is the Lions International’s highest honour and represents qualities such as generosity, compassion and concern for the less fortunate.
