Little Common art exhibition

Displayed on the walls were examples of his wide range of portrait work from oils to watercolour and charcoal sketch. Douglas has concentrated on portraits having been inspired by the desire to paint and draw family members, and he has captured a variety of subjects from very young to old. He uses different styles as appropriate but all the portraits have great charm and attention to detail.

He is the latest local artist to have work exhibited at the Espresso coffee bar which was opened in June by Bill and Samantha McKeown who want to give people the opportunity to have their work seen.

Bill commented: "We want to give local artists a chance - somewhere to hang their work, because otherwise it can be very expensive for them."

Of the exhibition Douglas said there had been "a good response" with interest in commissions.

Now 78, he commented: "I was interested in making some sort of record of the family - I had dabbled around for a number of years."
